Former Surgeon Dr. Joel Roskind Transitions to Instructing

Joel Roskind MD is retired from plastic surgery, but busier than ever furnishing expertise harvested from 30-year work to physicians and medical students. Dr. Joel Roskind draws on a wealth of know how that includes running a large, successful practice; functioning as an inspector for the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAASF); instructing at half a dozen medical schools and serving on a three-man plastic surgery team in the U.S. Navy.

He then joined the U.S. Navy and served as part of a three-man plastic surgery team. During that time, he traveled to Mexico to do surgery on disadvantaged youngsters with congenital deformities. Also during that time, he began his lecturing work at the University of California, San Diego. He has gone on to instruct at the Nassau University Medical Center, North Shore University Hospital, Cornell Medical School and the University Of Miami School Of Medicine. He will now be instructing for the second time at Boston University School of Medicine.

And, Joel Roskind is an knowledgeable teacher. He has previously taught at Boston University, as well as the Nassau University Medical Center, North Shore University Hospital, Cornell Medical School and the University of California, San Diego. He is also the former Voluntary Clinical Assistant Professor or Surgery at the University Of Miami School Of Medicine.

Acas Publishes Paper Urging for More Employee Engagement


Businesses should target for a high level of employee engagement to improve their health. This is one of the specific pieces of advice given by Acas, an employee relations service operating in the UK. Acas has discussed this in a paper recently published wherein it states that better employee engagement translates into increased employee retention, higher employee morale and higher productivity.

While discussing the ways and means to achieve better employee engagement it highlights the positive effect that a line manger can bring in by his proactive attitude. Along with the line manager, managers higher up in the company hierarchy also need to follow the same principles of behaviour and attitude so as to give a positive push to the work of the line manager. This attitude of the line manager should reflect a willingness to communicate freely along with a regular dose of feedback and emphasis on personal development.

Apart from the above, there are certain other factors too which contribute in achieving employee engagement. These factors have already been mentioned in the McLeod Report published in July 2009, and the paper by Acas merely highlights them.

Leadership is a major factor. If the employee is aware of the purpose of the business and his/her importance in this he/she will be engaged. Employees want to be heard and managers should be careful in listening to them and giving them their due importance. Engaging managers define clearly the expectation of the business to the employees and treat them as individuals and respect them for what they are and what they do. Integrity of the management in following the values of the company builds employee trust.
