Ways to Make More International Calls Without Splurging on Phone Cards

Posted by admin in Living With Information

Absence makes the heart grow fonder — Cliche? Yes. True? It depends.

Missing a person could be one hell of an ordeal. The stress it may bring is almost tantamount to mental torture. Distance is often the most fearsome test for relationships to withstand. What if a person has been away for too long? The tendency is that the person desserted or even both parties cope through looking for other activities with the attempt to make preoccupation forget the loneliness or homesickness a person feels.

But you know what? The rigors and melancholy that these trying times could bring may be alleviated. How? It’s as easy as getting the phone, dialing the phone number of that person and talking to that person. Calling your loved one more often and a lot longer is a surefire way to surmount that “abandoned” feeling.

Now the real problem is what if you need to be tight on your budget? Phonecards used for international calls often come with a hefty price tag. How do you deal with that when there’s some tuition, utilities and other bills waiting for you to act on.

Don’t fret. There are some ways for you to save on international calls. Just read on.

One way for you to not pinch much from your wallet while making that awaited international call is to know what kind of phone will receive your call. Overseas calls to mobile devices such as pagers and cellphones can cost you much more than when you call to a land line phone. This is because of the system called “calling party pays” employed by several overseas carriers. Ask your honey if she can just look for a landline instead of calling her through her latest Nokia.

How about getting some help from your good old smooth operator? NOT. Unless your call is for an emergency, don’t let the operator sweet talk you. You’ll see that what you can pay for only a few cents per minute could cost you some precious dollars after asking an operator to assist you with your call.

Go PPC. No, it’s not about your pubo-coccygeal muscles or those Internet marketing hype known as pay-per-click! It’s about using prepaid phone cards. Enjoy the convenience of not having to think of your bills after making that international call through the use of prepaid phone cards. Just make sure that you don’t fall for the mistake of buying expired cards or those that have high connection and maintenance fee.

Opt for pre-paid plans. If you’re not a prepaid card person despising all the fuss on knowing first all the hidden charges, prepaid plans could be of great help for you to save your hard-earned bucks. Websites that especially cater to those who’d really like to save on their international calls abound.

Choose what will not burn much of your time and what you’re most comfortable with. With these tips on how to save on your international calls, you don’t have to look for other activities to just resist the temptation of making that international call. Just call!

Top Tips for Choosing the Right Asian Style Platform Bed Sheet

Long time ago when I was a child, I remember that all the asian platform bed sheets in my house had to be white cotton ones. You are startled at the range of unique bedding that are on offer nowadays. Bedding was never so beautiful with the vibrant colors, prints and textures that are offered in bed sheets nowadays

Here are some steps that you can follow to purchase the ideal bedsheet for you.

Measure the sizing of your bed

Though we are all aware what a twin or king or queen sizing bed is, that there are no standard proportions for these beds. The top dimensions might be the same, but again the measurements differ with each producer. The bottom line is that you need to calculate the height, width, breadth of the bed and also check how thick the mattress is. You will find that some beds are taller or wider than others with the same name. When you have your beds proportions with you, choosing a bed sheet is easier.

Determine from where to buy

Super stores usually stock on branded bedding and their own brands in one place.. For a unique look, some people also go for embroidered bed sheets with sequins. Another choice is to shop online for the largest variety. In case you wish to purchase regular you can get a good deal at a discount rate outlet.

Learn about the thread count of bedding

A thread count stands for the count of threads consisted in one square inch of a sheet in both weaving directions. The label of the bedsheet has the thread count printed on it. For a luxurious feel, a high thread count is desirable. Beware of a very high thread count as the sheet may have lighter threads and not the texture you want. A soft bedsheet has a thread count that lies between 175 and 250.

Pick your bedsheet material

Take care to choose a fabric that you can afford and is cozy too. Cotton sheets are still liked, but blended cotton is preferable by those who dont like lines. Flannel is warm and can be used for winters. Those who wish a smooth sheet can go for satin or silk.

Caring instructions

You need to know how the bedsheet has to be cleaned prior to buying one. Silk bedding are stunning and romantic, but they need a weekly dry cleaning job. Do you have the time for all this? The best way is to buy comfortable sheets that can be machine washed.

Once all the above factors are taken care of, you are sure to purchase a nice and affordable bedsheet soon!

Birth of Rubber

Rubber. Michael Jordan certainly would have not captured six NBA championships without the rubber in his shoes. Supercars like the Ferrari and the Vanquish wouldn’t stain the highway with skid marks if it weren’t for the rubber in their tires. Question is: how did rubber come to be?

Long before European explorers and navigators discovered the Americas, the ancient natives of the continent, the Mayans, were already playing with elastic balls made of latex since 1600 BCE. Although these latex balls were the size of beach balls and weighed over 15 pounds, these were used by the Mayans in a sacred ritual game known as the Tlachtlic.

The Mayans were the ones who created the first crude form of rubber when they combined latex with the sap of morning glory vines. The morning glory was a very important plant for the Mayans, as it is used as a healing herb and as a hallucinogen. When the two substances were mixed, a black substance with roughly the texture of a gum eraser was formed.

Although the first recorded encounter with rubber was in 1525 when Padre d’Anghieria observed that Mexican tribesmen were playing with latex balls, the first scientific study on rubber was in 1735 by Charles dela Condamine. In 1736, rolled sheets of rubber were sent to France. The Europeans immediately put the new substance to various uses. From there, rubber became an important material in several industries: clothing, transportation, education, and construction.

SIP 101 - Session Initiation Protocol Explained

Posted by admin in Living With Information

Session Initiation Protocol or SIP refers specifically to a language that various computers can communicate to one another in so that they can complete voice calls. It has become vitally important in recent years as it plays a central role in VoIP or Voice Over Internet Protocol. VoIP Is the rapidly growing technology which has millions of Americans throwing out their local and long-distance telephone bills and replacing them with free calls made over the internet.

While Session Initiation Protocol sounds like technobabble, it helps if you can imagine SIP as the common language that new generation operators use to complete calls over the internet. With SIP, however, the operators are no longer hundreds of people in a room somewhere connecting one call to another but simply your computer device connecting to the telephone or computer device of the person you want to talk to. The fact that there is no need for real operators, or even a central board to complete calls through, explains part of why SIP is so revolutionary.

SIP was intended to give ordinary callers like you and me all the familiar functions and features of what we expect from a phone call, such as a dial tone, a ringing sound, etc. So while all the communication from our end seemed exactly the same as before, SIP makes phone calls by communicating directly with the other person’s telephone device. Unlike traditional telephony, which was based on a cog and wheel approach in which the call you placed goes through a central location and then is routed to the person you are trying to call, SIP is based on internet protocol. This means that there is no need for a central cog to run calls through, but rather calls can be made directly from person to person.

The fact that the technology is based on internet protocol (IP) rather than a traditional cog and wheel also means that placing and receiving calls are no longer inhibited by location. To conceive of this more easily it is best to think of something like your e-mail. You can take your laptop and access your e-mail from your home, just as easily as you can plug that laptop into the internet at access your e-mail from anywhere. In the same way, you can plug your SIP phone into any access point in the internet and call a person who can be located anywhere in the world. Similarly you can receive phone calls from anywhere in the world no matter where you are, simply be plugging your SIP phone into the internet.

As you can probably imagine, this ability has some pretty remarkable applications. For companies or businessmen that work out of the office, moving your office phone number is as simple as picking up the phone and carrying it with you. There is nothing else to it. For those often staying in hotels for travel or business, this means always having the direct office line with you wherever and whenever you want. No need to forward calls or even to ever pay for long distance or hotel phone access again!

The SIP technology is already revolutionizing the way in which humans communicate. In recent years, literally millions of Americans have tossed aside their traditional land based phone lines and opted for the freedom and cheapness of VoIP. Empowered with SIP technology it is uniquely able to provide you with virtually free calling, anywhere in the world, anytime in the world, without having to forward calls, change your number, or rely on others to check important messages. It is truly a technology for the future of business as well as the future of communication.

Quantum Communication

Posted by admin in Living With Information

I recently went to see the play Copenhagen, by Michael Frayn. This Tony Award-winning play stages the meeting between two Nobel laureates to discuss their role in the development of the atomic bomb. They brilliantly reveal how their actions and interactions with others were driven by their beliefs about the world.

While some communication training is geared to achieve a higher level of skills, “quantum leaps” in the way people communicate require an examination of beliefs. A person’s beliefs about themselves, other people and the world drive their choices in the way they interact with others. For example, consider the following three statements:

I believe that when I walk into a room:

No one will notice.
I add to the energy of the room.
I change the room with my presence.

Whether a person believes statement “a”, “b” or “c” will influence the manner in which they enter a room. What they believe will also affect how others perceive them because of the non-verbal cues that result from their beliefs.

In quantum physics, the adaptability and energy of an electron enables it to enter any number of situations. In communication, beliefs about flexibility and energy can achieve quantum results. The belief that “flexibility is important” will support the skills that enable a person to adapt to different situations. Believing that one can present different levels of energy renders the ability to infuse the right energy into other people and groups to effect change. One can literally connect and influence the “orbits” of others.

These beliefs can be supported by an even deeper understanding that each person is multi-faceted, has many “identities” and presents a different facade in different environments. When interacting with other people, what you see and hear is only “the tip of the iceberg”. Underneath the surface is a complex, fascinating mixture of experiences and memories, generated through the filters of their belief systems.

Quantum physics studies things and properties that are not visible to the naked eye. Similarly, communication can’t be “seen”. Only the results are evident, after the event has taken place, just as the presence of an electron is only known by the revelation of a beam of light.

To think of communication as a beam of light… a quantum thought that came from Copenhagen.

Switch to broadband phone providers and save hundreds of dollars per year

Posted by admin in Living With Information

Broadband or Internet phones function like real phones but convert voice into digital signals that are then conveyed over the Internet. The technology used is termed as, VoIP, Voice over Internet Protocol. Less expensive than regular phone services broadband phone services offer caller ID, call waiting, voice mail, call filters, hunt facilities, as well as conferencing.

Broadband phone services need a high-speed Internet connection and do work with wireless ISPs. However, there are still concerns over voice quality, reliability, and security. The advantages are: * Great savings in phone bills especially in long distance calling.

* Choice of area code and addition of other inbound numbers for a small fee. This means you can have local numbers in multiple area codes around the country.

* A home office PC in which the software is loaded along with a headset or specialized broadband phone connected to the PC. Advantages of software based VoIP are that it allows integration with other software, offers lowest calling rates, uses existing hardware, utilizes few power connection, and needs little space. Disadvantages are that the system needs the computer on at all times, cannot use existing telephone equipment, and blocks valuable computer resources.

Or

* With an adapter box that links the high speed net modem and the home office network or PC. Advantages of this are that it functions independently of the computer, uses landline equipment, allows vendor control of adaptor support and programming. Disadvantages are that it is not compatible with computer software, needs space and power outlets, and lends limited control. The new technology is provided by many companies like AT&T CallVantage, Broad Voice, BroadVox, Lingo, PacketB, and Vonage. The approximate costs are from US$ 14.95 to US$ 19.99 per month for residences and US$ 29.99 to US$49.95 per month for small businesses. There is a start up fee of US$ 39.94 to US$ 138.00 charged by some companies. More information on the options as well as services can be gleaned from:
