Post Holiday Home Lighting Conundrum

We’re well into the New Year now, and all the Christmas decorations are long gone. And to be honest, the house feels a bit empty. We move things around in the living room to make room for the tree, and the whole house felt warm and cozy during December. Now, we’re back to a minimalist design. And I have to ask the question: What can I do for home lighting that spruces up the whole house?

I’ve considered party lights. You know, those semi-Christmas that Hispanic families string up in their backyards and bachelors in their pads.I thought about some sports paraphernalia lamps from my team (who DOESN’T want the blue and gray Dallas Cowboys theme throughout their home?). And I’ve thought about recessed can lighting. The latter being my preference, of course, but also being the most expensive. Well, Cowboys stuff is never cheap. We’ll call it a tie.

But the goal here is to light up the home in a warm and festive way. Not to imitate the holidays, but to rival the holidays in warmth and cheer. Surely there are lighting theories or specialists out there who can point me in the right direction. What can I do to maintain a warm feel year round? I live in the South, which means air conditioners and ice cubes 9 months of the year. But that’s not the kind of warmth I’m looking for. I want the right color of lighting hitting the room from the right angle to make people feel especially welcome and at ease.
