Naming Ceremonies: Advice for First Time Godparents

Posted by admin in Uncategorized

Congratulations! It is a great honour your friends have done you, because being asked to be a godparent (aka as mentor, supporting adult, guideparent or guardian) is a significant responsibility and signals that they really trust you to look out for their child.

Many first-time godparents are hazy about what their role is and what is expected of them during the Naming Ceremony.

Role
Godparents step in when parents are not available, especially if they die or default. In my ceremonies I ask godparents to make promises to the parents as well as to the child, in order to signal their willingness to support the whole family.

Gifts
The main gift a godparent gives is the gift of self. During the ceremony, you can give a symbolic gift, and of course, you can always give the baby a significant gift to mark the occasion (and every significant occasion from then on!). Of course, it is perfectly acceptable for a godparent to give the naming ceremony as a gift. I provide attractive gift certificates for this purpose. Ask the officiant/celebrant you choose to do the same.

Dress
What you (or for that matter) anyone at the ceremony wears relates to the formality of the occasion. As most naming ceremonies are held at home, either indoors or in the garden or in parks, dress tends to be casual/smart casual. Of course, the baby can be dressed formally in a Christening gown or party clothes irrespective of what the guests are wearing.

Cake
Traditionally, the parents provide a celebratory cake which is cut at the party after the ceremony. But this would be a very nice gift for the godparents to bring. The cake and be a fully iced and decorated special occasion cake with a christening type topper, or it can be something simpler with flowers and/or the child’s name on it which might be from a bakery, supermarket, or home made.

The most important thing is to be authentic to yourself. There is no right and wrong beyond doing what comes from the heart and is authentic to you, to the child and to the family.

Jennifer Cram is a sought-after celebrant who performs a range of ceremonies including Naming Ceremonies as Beautiful as Your Baby in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Fanatical about performance measurement and monitoring, a field in which she is an acknowledged expert, she uses tear-measurement to assist her to gauge client satisfaction with her ceremonies - she counts damp eyes because she is well aware that participants and guests remember how they felt, rather than what precisely was said at a ceremony. First airing in July 1997, the show has been nominated for 7 Emmys and 23 Saturn Awards. The brainchild of creator Dean Devlin, producer of such Hollywood blockbusters as Independence Day (1996) and The Patriot (2000), Stargate SG-1 chronicles the further adventures of the Stargate Command (SGC) as Earth and its citizens advance forward into a new era of space exploration in the aftermath of Dr. Daniel Jackson’s discovery of the galaxy’s numerous stargates…

Stargate SG-1 follows the exploits of the SG-1 Unit (i.e. the “explorer” unit) of Stargate Command. When a new code is broken that reveals the location of stargates throughout the galaxy, Earth and its inhabitants are given the ability to travel through time to any point they wish instantaneously. Brigadier General Jonathan “Jack” O’Neill (Richard Dean Anderson) is the commanding officer of SG-1. He’s accompanied by Dr. Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks), the brilliant professor whose investigations originally helped uncover the existence of the stargates, and fellow teammates Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping) and Teal’c (Christopher Judge). The Baby Stroller- How To Choose

Posted by admin in Uncategorized

You will need to begin gathering the things your baby will need, now that you got the news that you are expecting a bundle of joy. You may feel overwhelmed if this is your first baby with all the decisions that need to be made.

Deciding on the type of stroller you will use for your baby is one of the biggest decisions you will need to make. You need to determine your budget first before you begin choosing from among the many different types of strollers. The cost of strollers can range from $10 to $400 and higher.

The lower end strollers are generally the lightweight umbrella strollers. Easy folding and storage give these strollers an advantage. High prices for a stroller could indicate greater quality and better features. You should know which of the variety of features that come with strollers is important to you?

Which would you want a convertible travel system or a stroller and a car seat? A travel system has a stay in the car base, a stroller frame to which the infant carrier/ car safety seat is attached. These are wonderful especially for your newborn baby.

A play tray that has places for a bottle or juice cup come with strollers. Many strollers come with canopies that have vinyl windows to let you keep an eye on the baby. Easily applied foot brakes that are attached to both rear wheels and a wrist strap brake that can be used together are included on most strollers.

While you have the strap on it gives you extra safety while you are stopped because the stroller can’t roll away. Strollers are now coming with a parent tray that fits over the handle bar as well as a large storage basket that fits under the seat(s). It has a holder for a cup of coffee or a soda, your cell phone, snack, and your keys.

Reversible handlebars that can be moved from front to rear or vice versa and are height adjustable are now on most strollers. The reversible handlebars can help you to see your baby while he rides if necessary and the height adjustable feature is a great back saver.

Next to be considered is the seat. Will the seat recline enough, if it reclines, to allow your newborn to lie almost flat? Will the seat be comfortable for your baby and well padded? Can the seat padding be removed so it can be washed? Blankets that can be attached with snaps to the seat come on most upper end strollers

Your baby’s stroller becomes like a bunting on wheels with these blankets. Your baby is protected from wind and harsh sunlight with the use of these detachable rain hoods. Another twist comes with your decision about a baby stroller. You can have for free a stroller that is almost brand new from your friend. She promises to get the stroller ready for you and cleaned.

Is it a safe choice for your baby to have a used stroller? Before you place your baby in it you will need to look over some things and it could be a very good choice for you and your baby. No gaps, dents, or cracks should be found in the frame. Bolts and screws must all be in place.

If it were anything less your baby could be seriously hurt in an accident. Are there any sharp spots on the frame? Can your baby be cut by screws sticking out or are there loose screws? Is the frame and handle bar properly joined?

Do you need to look over the wheels for leaks in air pressure or are they solid?

The wheels; are they worn?

Do the wheels need replacement?

Are the wheels turning appropriately?

Are the axels crooked?

Are the brakes holding when applied and working properly?

No matter if the seat is in straight us position or reclining position, does the seat hold?

Your baby could be seriously hurt if the seat does not hold the position well. Is the seat lining fitting the frame properly and is it clean? Strollers have a variety of options, types, and styles. Multi-seated strollers are available for two children or more.

There is a variety of seating arrangements including tandem and side by seating as well as stadium seating which a variation of tandem seating where the rear seat is higher than the front allowing the second child to see more than just the back of a head.

Jogging strollers have a triangular wheelbase with one large one out in front and two in the rear. Jogging strollers also come with multiple seating. Used or new enjoy your outings with your baby or children.

Custom Baby Website: a Great Way to Share Your Baby’s Development

Posted by admin in Uncategorized

My wife and I had our first child last year, and very shortly thereafter, emailing new photos and updates of our little angel became a common activity. Being a web designer by trade, I decided to build a little web site for our baby, and invite family an friends to go there to get the latest. As more people visited, I added password protection, automatic email alerts for new photos, a blog, etc.

This required having a web site name and web hosting, hours of coding, and formal and professional training in web design. While that worked fine for me, when a friend asked me to build one for their baby, I knew I was in trouble. I truly wanted others to have a custom, secure web site for their baby, but did not want to be up late at night building them! Further, sites like oFoto and Blogger are great for sharing photos and journal entries, respectively, but my site did all of that in one place, and so much more. Plus, it was specific to babies, new parents, family and friends.

Finally, I decided to make sites just like the one I built for my daughter available to the public at large. Using the latest web technologies, I built it so anyone can build a custom baby website for their child. They get to share a home page, photo albums, journal entries, milestones, guestbook and more, with professionally designed templates, or themes. Plus, only the people they invite get to see the baby’s site. That keep hackers and search engines out, which was important to me when I built my daughter’s site. Also there are absolutely no advertisements on the baby’s site.

I think that the end result is very true in spirit to the initial site I made for our daughter, and based upon early returns, parents really enjoy making their sites and inviting family and friends. I made it so easy, that if you can type an email and attach a photo, you can have a custom web site for your baby up and running in minutes. I think it is a great idea for parents as well as a unique baby shower gift. I hope you check it out, and decide to get one for your baby, or send one as a gift. If nothing else, let me know what you think of the site!

Do you have plans to go out and get a flatscreen and postulate 25000 euro

This is why now you need to check out and understand if you can have a bank loan at a estimable percent loan rate. 8 percent rate of interest may appear so acceptable but will that be unvaried after you’re going to pay for your loan. At this present you can check up on interest rates quickly online and calculate if there are other conditions you should be aware of. Check out to see if the bank who is tending to give you a loan is honest. A lot of the moneylenders wil show you a interest rate that is looking respectable but doesn’t feel well or so after a period of time. Be overbold today to examine if you have a bargain or if you don’t with the merchant bank that offers you a money loan. A moneylender in New Albany Indiana or so can have a total different actual rate for a 27500 dollar money loan then a merchant bank in Lafayette Louisiana and that makes a huge clear gap in your weekly pay offs.

It doesn’t matter if you live in Ocala Florida or in Birmingham Alabama a solid online investigation will salve you often lots of incommode.

My Search For Reality in TV Revealed Satellite TV and Television’s Future, Now

Posted by admin in School of Movies

My Search For Reality in TV Revealed Satellite TV and Television’s Future, Now.

I never dreamed of TV becoming amazing again - I was the guy with 12 o’clock blinking green on his VCR. Yes, I said VCR. So getting the hang of today’s TV was not a piece of cake.

Recently, during an emergency replace-ectomy of my dying Zenith behemoth, I realized I was in deep trouble. Never mind DVD. Who knew of progressive scan and digital convergence. Aspect ratios and digital comb filters. Anti-glare coatings and so many lines of resolution? I knew of the tv satellite dish, but…

This was a long way from the TV I was nurtured on?

I remember seeing Elvis on the Ed Sullivan Show gyrating inside a black & white-glass-globe-picture-tube about as small as the window on a front-load washer.

…Man did the warm glow of that box-at-the-end-of-a-wire get me excited.

Oh, I watched plenty alright! And you know what? I can’t remember ever complaining about getting up from the couch to change the channel… or to adjust the antenna.

Then, Wagon Train on a 19 inch “color set” was about as good as it got.

I lost track of television’s high technology after a while I suppose. I saw TVs getting bigger and I did get hip to cable and the remote control - but distracted by life and a million other things - today’s satellite TV and the whole awesome new experience almost passed me by.

It wasn’t until my first trip to a home-electronics super-store - to replace the dinosaur 25inch Zenith color console, in a polished-wood-cabinet that matched our living-room furniture long ago - that I realized I wasn’t in Kansas anymore… but rather, lost.

Lost in a new-world-unknown.

A world where I discovered satellite tv on flat screens square and wide, Where thin plasmas hung on the wall and flat-panel LCDs framed in silver sat upon slender, tilting pedestals.

I saw TVs that connect to your computer and one, giant-screen, rear-projector that eats digital camera memory sticks to show your photos of grandma on vacation in larger than life and surround sound.

Oh, TVs are still getting bigger, alright. But now they are amazing again and I’m excited. But with that “excitement and amazement”, comes downright confusion. How do they do that? What of “all that” is right for me?

Now, I like the idea of a tv satellite dish on my roof, but it’s a new-tech jungle out there my friend. Prepare if you too are from Kansas.

I’ll help you get a clue about what’s out there before you buy “what could become” the most incredible entertainment experience you and your living room - or Elvis, could ever dream-up. And for a lot less than you think, too.

Keep your eye on the Planet. I’ll fill you in soon about why I can’t leave my home anymore.

Disposable Diapers

Posted by admin in Uncategorized

Diapers are undoubtedly an integral part of a baby’s growing up years and disposable diapers are largely preferred by working parents for their convenience. Invented by Marion Donovan of the US, disposable diapers are a very expensive baby accessory. However, they are chosen by parents who are largely pressed for time.

When disposable diapers were first introduced in the mid 1950s, they were primarily plastic diapers with plenty of fluff. However, the present breed of disposables have come a long way. All of them are available with water-resistant covers, absorbent pads and dry-weave sheets to make the baby feel as dry and comfortable as possible. There are no attachment diaper pins needed, since most of these diapers come with excellent leak-proof Velcro attachments.

Disposable diapers, in spite of their easy-to-use factor, bring along with them a host of health problems for the baby. The most common problem is diaper rash. Due to repeated urination and lack of proper air circulation, babies often develop rashes that can be extremely painful. Some health experts are of the opinion that dyes used in disposable diapers may lead to permanent damage to the baby’s liver as well as the central nervous system. There are even stray reports by some doctors and medical professionals the toxic gas emanating from a used disposable diaper may lead to asthma. The absorbent pads within the diapers contain a chemical solution(present as gel) known as sodium polyacrylate. This controls the fluid within the diaper, preventing leakage. However, this is the chemical that is solely responsible for diaper rashes.

In spite of such obvious drawbacks, disposable diaper manufacturers claim that their products have been repeatedly tested and proved safe. Big production companies also claim to have employed quality-control experts to look for manufacturing defects. Such repeated assurances from manufacturers have led many parents to switch to disposable diapers from cloth ones that are usually considered to be a healthier option.

However, the fact remains that most disposable diapers occupy huge portions of land(once they are disposed) in a world that is becoming increasingly short of space. There are also a number of air borne and water borne diseases that might arise out of such garbage. Human diapers may even prove to be fatal for animals if the toxic gas is inhaled. The disposed of diapers may even affect plant life and may go on to have a detrimental effect on our environment.

These stores are ideal as you can find gear for all sports at one place in addition to shoes sports clothing, outdoor clothes & basketball gear.

The downside to buying sports supplies at a typical retail store like these is that you may not buy the highest quality stuff on the market now. The 4 Actions of Awesome Hospitality

Posted by admin in Better Social Life

These Actions of Awesome Hospitality will help you manifest the power of approachability through your organizational front porches.

AWESOME ACTION #1: Go Beyond the Door
My friend, Pastor Bob Farr of the St. Peters Church of the Shepherd, told me about a man he encountered after the worship service one Sunday. Bob went into the lobby to say goodbye to some of his members. He noticed a man standing along by the coffee kiosk, so he approached him. He introduced himself and thanked him for coming.

In a reserved tone the guest said, “You know Pastor, I’ve been coming to this church for the past 9 weeks. I know I’m shy and all, but not one time has anyone said hello to me.”

“Really?” Bob asked, “You know, our staff works very hard to be hospitable and friendly to everyone - especially new members. I’m surprised nobody has approached you!”

“Well,” he continued, “I am usually greeted at the door when I walk in, but that’s it. Once I get through the lobby and into the service, I feel invisible. Anyway, this morning I told myself: today is the 10th and final time. It’s my last chance. And if nobody says anything, I’m outta here. But, thanks to your hospitality beyond the door, I think I’ll stick around.”

Have you ever felt this way - like someone made the initial effort to extend hospitality but their willingness trickled away after a few minutes? It’s kind of like ordering your food at a restaurant, getting the food delivered by your server, and never seeing her again until the check comes. (As if delivering the food was all that mattered.)

My good friend Shep Hyken, CSP who is a motivational speaker and author of The Loyal Customer and Moments of Magic, says that “someone’s assessment of excellent service is measured in proportion to the amount of time you spend after what’s basic, needed or expected.” So not unlike “Going Beyond Hello” in the Attitude of Awesome Hospitality, the first step in the Actions of Awesome Hospitality is also Going Beyond - beyond the door, that is.

AWESOME ACTION #2: Talk to Strangers
One of the reasons we have difficulty going beyond the door and extending ourselves to The New Guy is because we’re afraid of talking to strangers. We live in a culture of fear that tells us strangers are different, so therefore they will hurt us. (Ironic, isn’t it - hospitality means “the love of strangers.”)

This fear has a way of manifesting itself into our actions. Take public speaking, for example. It’s the number one most common social phobia of humans. Why? Because they’re afraid of being negatively judged by others - and their performance is a reflection of that fear.

But do you know what the second most common social phobia among humans is? According to the Social Anxiety Association, it’s talking to strangers. Lyn Lofland, in her book A World of Strangers, explained it perfectly: “Active avoidance of contact is constantly boosted by the fear of contamination from those are not like us.”

Wow. Contamination. That’s a powerful word. Combine that with our inherent fear of rejection - albeit by a person we don’t even know - and it’s no wonder people don’t feel welcome at so many organizations!

But as the definition says, a stranger is someone with whom you have not yet been acquainted. So people make it out to be a lot scarier that it really is. And in the process of becoming an effective and engaging communicator one conversation at a time, you must have the courage to transform a stranger into a neighbor and neighbor into a friend. That’s what hospitality is all about.

AWESOME ACTION #3: Dismiss Judgment
A few days before giving one of my Awesome Hospitality into Authentic Relationships programs, I had dinner with my best friend (and mentor) William Jenkins. I asked him what he thought the major challenges to organizations were, to which he replied with this story:

“Every year when I used to teach high school English, the administration would send us our student lists about a week before classes began. Some teachers - the moment they got their lists - marched right back upstairs and spent the next hour making roll changes. They selected specific students they didn’t want (or that didn’t seem to belong) in their classes and switched them out.

I, on the other hand, took that time to get a cup of coffee! In fact, I didn’t even look at my class list until the day classes began - because I was going to teach everybody the same.

Anytime someone new walks into the door, the room or the organization, dismiss your judgment about them. Even if they look like they won’t fit in - they still deserve your hospitality. And it all starts with that first step onto someone’s front porch.

AWESOME ACTION #4: Sacrifice Your Comfort
As I explained, the reason humans are so terrified of public speaking is because of the fear of being judged. But in addition to talking in front of scores of new faces, simply being in front of scores of new faces can be uncomfortable. And at every meeting of every organization, there’s a good chance The New Guy will experience this fear when they walk into their first meeting.

Let’s take your Professional Association, for example. Imagine your monthly meeting takes place on a cold, winter morning at your local banquet hall. All the board members, staff and veterans show up a few minutes ahead of time at about 7:45 A.M. (They gotta get the closest seats and the hottest food!)

At 8:06, when the program begins and most people have already sat down to eat, in walks Aly, a newly registered member. She’s already in a bad mood because she had to park seven blocks away. Huffing into a room full of strangers, hair out of place from the hike, she scopes out a place to sit. She feels terrible for showing up late and tries to be an inconspicuous as possible. To her dismay, there’s only one seat left: the one all the way in the front of the room.

Aly reluctantly makes her way up to the front, turning as beet red as everyone watches her every move. Finally, after whispering an apology to the speaker she was so excited to hear, she sits down and takes out her notebook.

Has that ever happened to you before?

It’s happened to me on a number of occasions. And not just because I have a non-existent sense of direction and couldn’t arrive on time if my life depended on it, but also because members are often unwilling to sacrifice their comfort for someone new.

So if you’ve been a member of an organization for six months, a year or five years - you’ve already become accustomed to the group. You’re all settled in. And you’ve had enough time to get comfortable. Now you must reinstate the Golden Rule for the sake of The New Guy and temporarily sacrifice your comfort. Extend awesome hospitality to that one person who so desperately needs to feel welcome; because if you don’t - they may never come back again.

And don’t assume other people - Greeters or otherwise - will do this. If everyone assumes someone else will take action, nobody will take action. That’s called diffusion of involvement.

Here some final Awesome Actions you can use to ensure the comfort of new members:

  • Give up your seat in the back
  • Park as far away as possible
  • Bring someone new into your conversation
  • Don’t buy a raffle ticket so they have a better chance of winning
  • Ask someone new to join your table
  • Invite them out with your group after the meeting
  • Allow the new person to talk as much as possible
