An Issue Which Should Be up for Discussion Again

Posted by admin in Commerce, It's Your Business

It could be argued that one of the biggest hurdles in getting people on side for joining the Euro is undoubtedly convincing the British public that actually it makes much more sense now than it ever has done previously. This opinion is mirrored in that of an increasingly large group of leading figures such as Peter Sutherland who believe that perhaps joining the Euro would be a sensible decision. In the somber desperate last days of peace before the first World War commenced, the British Foreign Secretary, Sir Edward Grey, was repeatedly pressured by his French and Russian colleagues to publicly say, categorically that Britain would remain faithful to its Entente with France and warn Germany that war with England was indeed an inevitability. Each time Grey masterfullymaintained his room for manoeuvre and resisted the pressure. Even as late as August 1st he could argue forcefully that London could not abandon neutrality “for the simple reason that public opinion would not sanction any other course”. As well as this at the Cabinet meeting that Sunday, a clear majority were against any involvement in the imminent conflict. Both the City, many of whose major bankers were of German stock, and much of the media were against getting involved with the war. Grey kept his freedom of action until the last.

But the end was was coming fast. Four days later London had commenced with Germany. However shocking the current financial crisis, it is on a smaller scale, thankfully, than 1914 but the question arises as to whether British pragmatism responding to dramatic events might not be capable of engineering a similar volte-face; to be precise the embrace of British Euro membership after years of anti Euro sentiment from the self appointed representatives of Angleterre Profonde. As in July 1914 there is no political motivation for European engagement at any level of any of the three main parties. A collective ambivalence towards the Euro worn at times heavily on the sleeve extends its deadening embrace cutting across all party lines. As history has time and time again told us, this does not necessarily means opinions can’t change. I for one believe that it is precisely that change of attitude which could play a major role in determining the future of the United Kingdom. Indeed it is vitally important that people do become more open to the idea of joining the Euro, and realize that rather than something to be feared it could in fact be our saving grace.

Birth Announcement Etiquette 101

Posted by admin in Uncategorized

When you are going to give birth to a child, it is a truly special event. All of your friends and family will be eager to hear the news. However, there are certain rules of etiquette for announcing a new birth. The best way to announce a birth is to give all of the information in a simple way. Sending birth announcements to everyone important in your life is paramount.

Birth announcements should be sent as close to the actual birth date as possible. Picking out the design and verse, and addressing the envelopes before the actual birth can make things a lot easier. Additionally, buying stamps before the arrival of the new baby can help ensure that you can send the notices out soon after of the actual birth. A good practice is to wait no longer than six months to send out birth announcements. If you wait longer than that, some people may feel slighted by not being informed. There’s nothing worse than an angry aunt or uncle!

Birth announcements should be simple and effective, and, of course, attractive. If you are concerned with how you will appear in front of your family, then you should probably make sure you have an appealing birth announcement. Capturing the joy of the arrival of a new baby is essential in any birth announcement. Of course, all of the colors should be practical. Some nice ideas are to include colors like pink and purple for girls, or blue and green for boys. Use clever fonts and easy-to-read font colors. Selecting the size of the letters is also important because older people in your family may not have the best vision.

In the birth announcement, you may want to have a verse as the introduction. It could be a short passage from a poem or a popular phrase. The passage should capture the joy you and your family feel over the new arrival. An example would be something such as: “Our home has grown by two feet…” The child’s name should naturally be included at the beginning of the announcement (first, middle, and last). Birth details are also very important. Facts such as the birth date, weight, and length. You can also add the time of birth and the place of birth onto the announcement. The closing should include the parents’ names followed by sibling names (if any). Following these simple rules of etiquette should result in everyone important in your life finding out about the new arrival in a timely and pleasant manner.

Alison Hodges recommends PhotoAffections.com for photo birth announcements.

21 Ways Content Drives Your Traffic Part 2

Posted by admin in Life Of SEO

Linking Pages

Are you creating linking pages to impress the search engines? How much more value would they have if you offered quality, optimized content for each of your categories?

Rather than having a bland list of ‘linking partners’ you could be using your links to gain more credibility AND provide more content for the search engines.

Create a separate page for each link category and write 200-400 words of content on that subject. Offering your recommended links at the end will make you a source for information rather than just a catalogue of links.

Optimizing each page for a popular keyword will draw more traffic to your site than links alone. It will also be more beneficial for your visitors who are searching for related resources.

Press Release

If you thought you were starting to grasp the importance of content, you haven’t even started to see the potential yet.

Press releases should become an important part of your marketing. What do you need to create a press release? Content.

Press releases are notices to the media about newsworthy events, accomplishments or information. By creating a press release to announce a new product, results of a poll or related news event, you can get free advertising in the media.

News media is always looking for new content for their readers. Learning how to compose and deliver a press release will give you access to this pool of willing advertisers.

To create your own press release, go to a website like www.PRweb.com and read the releases that are posted there. When you are familiar with the format you can write your own and submit it. Just avoid advertising copy and be sure to highlight some new thought or angle to make your press release newsworthy for publishers to use. If you want to invest the extra money you can hire a press release writer or have your release reviewed by a PRweb specialist.

Newspaper

Press releases can work just as well in your local paper as they do in online news websites.

Submit your press release to the editor or the writer for the section of the newspaper you want to target.

You could also try to submit your own column, giving tips and related information to your topic, as a free form of advertising. Smaller newspapers may find this idea more appealing since larger newspapers would not be likely to publish your works without formal working arrangements.

Magazine Articles

Just like online magazines, printed magazines need fresh content all the time. If you are writing articles you may be able to submit them to magazine editors for review.

Be sure to follow their policies which may be listed on their website or you can email or phone for instructions. Just like newspapers, you will have a greater chance for success if you target smaller publishers first.

Classifieds

Online classifieds have gone through some fluctuations of their own. Originally touted as one of the best methods to get traffic, the inundation of ads by internet marketers nearly flooded the market and made it impossible for readers to find what they were looking for.

However, using classifieds can still send you some traffic and will also help your site get listed in the search engines. Use keyword phrases in your ad and include a hyperlink. You are not putting a lot of content in these ads, but what you do put needs to be effective.

Offline Brochure

Do you promote a product, information or service that can be used locally? Consider creating a brochure that gives information on a question related to your topic. Include reference to how using YOUR service or product will assist them in solving the problem. Give some brief answers and point out your website as a source for more information.

Offer to leave your brochures in places that might attract your audience or post them on community boards. Pass them along to friends and family who might pass them along to others for you.

Traffic is people - whether they come to your site or directly to you, they all count.

Newsletter Exchange

Are you having success with your newsletter? Perhaps you’d like to approach another website owner and offer to write a short article for his subscribers - or to exchange articles to promote one another to each other’s list.

If the newsletter isn’t competition, but complimentary to your market, they should be equally interested to talk to your list of subscribers.

Article Announcement Lists

Article announcement lists are similar to article directories in that your article will be placed before an audience of webmasters and publishers who may choose to use your article on their website or in their newsletter.

The advantage of article announcement lists is that the members sign up to receive new articles by email. Your article will be directly sent to members who are interested in the topic of your article based on the list description they have subscribed to.

Yahoo! has a ‘Groups’ area where you can browse the lists and sign up to receive announcements. By following the guidelines for posting, you can submit articles relevant to the topic (for example there are groups for home, business, internet etc.)

The individuals receiving your article have already indicated an interest in articles on the chosen topic and this creates the perfect audience for your material. You may find traffic coming directly from the members of the list or from their websites when they publish your article with your link.

Publish an Ecourse

Create a multi page tutorial that can be given to subscribers or given away by other businesses.

Like a report, the ecourse can be offered as a freebie by yourself or others. The readers receive valuable tips and information all while being directed to your site at the end of each lesson. You may find that a tutorial delivered over the course of several weeks allows you to develop a relationship with your reader whether they originally received it from you or someone else.

By providing valuable instructions on a related topic to your business you are warming up your audience to become future customers or clients.

Affiliate Programs

Help your affiliates drive traffic to your site by giving them letters or reports to post on their sites or in their newsletters. Your affiliates are also in need of content to provide their customers and if you are providing that content for free they will have more success in sending their subscribers or visitors in your direction.

Your Blog

Creating a blog that is related to your business or niche will allow you to attract an audience that may not respond to a sales page. Providing content and news about your topic with hyperlinks to your various articles or sales pages is an indirect way to send traffic to your site. You can set up a free blog at www.blogger.com.

If you have valuable content and offer subscriptions to your blog (subscription services are free at www.bloglet.com) you can create a pool of readers who will turn to you first when looking for your product or service. You can also make your blog available for others to publish on their websites by creating an RSS feed. This will allow other websites to automatically run your new content on their websites every time you update your blog.

By submitting your blog to www.PingOmatic.com you can alert other blog services when you post updates.

Other Peoples’ Blogs

Your content can be just as valuable to other bloggers who may have a difficult time finding content to share with their readers.

Offering to submit an article to a relevant blog can be a great way to drive traffic to your site with the use of a hyperlink in your author credit.

Be a Contributing Writer

If your writing skills or expertise are truly impressive you may be able to offer an online or offline magazine or newsletter your services as a contributing writer.

By writing a column on your topic or service and having it regularly published in a magazine that caters to your audience, you will have the opportunity to place yourself as an ‘expert’, leading to loyal readers and customers.

Buying for Your New Baby Without Breaking the Bank

Posted by admin in Uncategorized

After my daughter was born, I sat down and looked over all of the unnecessary and unused items that I had accumulated during my pregnancy. A baby “backpack” to carry my child around in (turns out she absolutely hated it), swaddling blankets that promised that baby would be so comfortable that she would sleep all night (which she still has not) and many other items.

For reasons unknown, I purchased these items because I thought they would make me a better mother. Now that my daughter is older and I have become a little wiser, I have compiled a list of absolute necessities for a new mom. Hopefully, this will help you save time and cash when shopping for your new baby.

Onesies (creepers)

Plain onesies are the best item of clothing for baby. They are usually inexpensive so you can buy a variety of sizes without breaking the bank and they are comfortable clothing for baby. Make sure that you purchase the appropriate type depending on the weather at the time your baby will be born.

Pacifiers

I recommend purchasing a couple of different types of pacifiers. See which ones your baby prefers and then purchase more according to babys preference. Three to four pacifiers are sufficient: one for the diaper bag, one for the car and a couple in the house are all you need.

Bottles

Some babies like a faster flow nipple when others prefer a slow flow nipple. Purchase a couple different types of nipples and see which one your baby prefers. Also, I recommend purchasing five to ten bottles so you are not constantly washing bottles.

Diapers

I have found in talking with other new moms that most babies fit comfortably in preemie diapers for the first week or two after being born. With this in mind, purchase one package of preemie diapers and one package of size ones. The selection of sizes will keep you from having to run to the store to buy the next size up or down in diapers.

Car Seat

Before purchasing a car seat be sure to research safety and customer reviews for car seats that you may purchase. Prepare a list of reliable seats to bring with you when you register for or buy the car seat.

Pants/shorts

If you are going to take your baby out of the house, make sure that you have pants and/or shorts (depending on the weather) to properly cover up your child. I recommend at least seven pair of pants/shorts for baby.

Socks

Socks are necessary to keep little feet warm! Have seven pair of socks on hand so you can limit doing your little one’s laundry to once a week.

Bassinet/Co Sleeper

Before baby is born discuss your sleeping preferences with your partner. Some new parents prefer co-sleepers while others prefer cribs or bassinets. Be sure to research your picks before purchasing or registering.

A Few Toys

Have a few toys on hand such as rattles or small toys with lights. These will help develop your new babys senses. However, do not go overboard. Your baby will be more interested in sleeping than playing so save your money until baby is older.

Blankets

Someone told me that you can never have enough blankets for your newborn and boy were they right! Blankets get dirty fast so make sure you have enough on hand. I would recommend anywhere from 10-20 blankets for baby in a variety of thicknesses and textures.

Some optional items that I found useful are as follows. Remember you do not need these items for your baby but some people find these things helpful.

Baby Swing

You may want to let your little one try a swing before you buy it. Some babies don’t like swings!

Movies

Again, try one of these out before you buy a whole set. Typically babies will not be interested in made for baby movies until they are three months old.

Diaper Bag

If you cannot afford a diaper bag in the beginning, a large purse or even a grocery bag can serve as a diaper bag in the interim.

Stroller

If you do not plan on taking your baby out very often or if you cannot afford a stroller do not worry. Many stores offer shopping carts with baby chairs or just carry your baby when you bring baby out. If you decide to purchase a stroller be sure to research all of your options before you buy one.

Baby Shower Theme - This Is About Babies Right

Posted by admin in Uncategorized

What sort of ideas are you seeking for your baby shower theme, well of course we all know that, ideas that will reflect what the whole occasion is about and remain in the guest`s memories for a long time to come.

Not all baby showers have a theme and this could be because of a number of reasons like a restricted budget or that the host or mother-to-be has other ideas for the celebration.

If your event to celebrate the new baby on the way is going to involve a baby theme then decorate accordingly - for example if Winnie the Pooh is your preference then cute little cuddly bears can be placed around the room. Honey pots with personalized engravings can be donated as your thank you gift favors.
While on the subject of bears we have to remember that these have always held a preferential place over any other item given to a baby as their first toy. Teddy bear themes will always encourage an atmosphere of baby`s presence whether the infant is born or not

New born babies are sleepers so this maybe the reason why the night sky glittered with stars are so poplar for a baby topic. Decorations for this type of atmosphere are simple - silver stars cut from tin foil and other evening sky object shapes will prove to be very cost effective for this look. Be careful when putting this theme in to action as it may entail climbing a ladder to reach the ceiling. Hang coloured streamers and angelic cherub cut outs.

Baby and kiddie fairy tale books strewn around the room can add colour as well as gain interest from your guests in occupying themselves while waiting for the food to be served up. These books can be given as your thank you gift favors. The books will be warmly accepted because there is a possibility that the guest never got to finish the story they started reading before filling their bellies - so to cut a long story short (excuse the pun) they get to read the ending.

Fairies, elves and fairytale characters are fabulous ornamentation figurines to place on the table of edibles even the edibles can be shaped in the form of different baby icons. Baby theme ideas are endless.

If you have other children bring them in on the planning of the theme for your baby shower party. Kiddies have wonderful ideas - their imaginations just run wild so consider any suggestions that they have. The worst case scenario that could happen here by listening to the child is - the guest may not be impressed but the babies that are already here will be. (This is about babies right)

A site that comes higly reccomended for all baby essentials by mothers who have had success with planning their baby shower is http://www.good-baby-showers.net For mums who want to get back into shape http://www.want2yoga.com.

Gritting of Teeth (bruxism)

Posted by admin in Uncategorized

The first sign of your child’s gritting of teeth can be sounds you may hear in the night. If you hear a mysterious sound, resembling some creak, coming from a child’s room, come to him and learn.

Bruxism (greeting of teeth) occurs as a result of rhythmic clonus of masticatory muscles, accompanied by low sound, resembling gritting or clicking. During bruxism, a change of pulse, arterial pressure, breath etc. takes place. This phenomenon during sleep is met rather often. Mechanisms of bruxism origin are still not clear.

No personal changes, typical for those who suffer from bruxism were found. It is considered that bruxism can be one of displays of defects of sleep regulation, like somnambulism, night enuresis and nightmares. It was discovered that these phenomena are displayed more often under epilepsy.

Bruxism is found in 5-15% cases in population, and in about 50% of children. There’re facts about inherited predisposition to bruxism. Bruxism causes no problems for majority of children, and many of them get out of this habit with time. During sleep, you may notice several episodes of bruxism, lasting up to 10 seconds. If bruxism’s episodes last longer and are extremely intensive, then this may lead to damage of teeth and surrounding soft parts.

During severe fits of bruxism a child may wake up in the morning with headache, toothache and even painful feelings in his face. This may turn out to be very serious. If gritting of teeth lasts for more than months and years, teeth can undergo significant wear. Moreover, this may damage the joint that helps lower jaw to join a side of head.

If your child is gritting his teeth all the time, you should consult a dentist, which can make a special tire for your child, which won’t allow teeth to adjoin. If your child is gritting his teeth only sometimes, then you can try to use methods, recommended by experts, or you may also use them together with a tire in his mouth.

Give rest to jaws. If your child doesn’t chew, swallow or talk, his upper and lower teeth shouldn’t adjoin. If teeth adjoin, there’s only one step to gritting left. Explain to a child and ask him to try keeping his teeth slightly pulled out, when his jaws are relaxed.

Encourage exercising. Regular exercises can help your child to relieve stress and muscle tension, which lead to a night gritting of teeth.

Calm occupations before going to bed. A child shouldn’t take part in some struggle, drawing and other impetuous games before going to bed. Strained muscles need time to relax, before a child falls asleep. Create a calm atmosphere for your child 1 hour before he goes to bed. You can read a book or give him a possibility to read or look through pictures by himself during this period.

Try to put your child to bed earlier. Probably, your child is just too tired, and this may lead to gritting of teeth in the night. In this case, earlier going to bed may help him. If your child usually went to bed at 9 pm, try to put him to bed at 8 pm.

Avoid eating before going to bed. If digestive juices are working in the night, this may lead to excess tension of a baby during sleep. Don’t give anything to your child, except water, an hour before he goes to bed.

Speak with a child about his problems. If your child is worried with some difficult home task or a coming school performance, this may serve as a reason that makes him gritting his teeth in the night. If something worries a child, don’t let him go to bed with this anxiety in his head. Talk to him before he goes to bed, so that all troubles would leave him, this often helps to relieve tension. Make a 5 or 10 minutes conversation a daily sedative procedure before your child falls asleep.

Apply warm, wet compresses. If your child’s jaw aches in the morning, moisten a terry-cloth tissue in warm water, squeeze it and apply to an aching jaw till your child feels better. This will help to calm down pain.

Rickets: Vitamin D Deficiency in Infants

Posted by admin in Uncategorized

Many people believe that rickets (soft bones and other developmental problems) is no longer a problem, but it has shown up again in children who are breast-fed and dark-skinned. Up until 1920, rickets was common. It’s caused by lack of vitamin D.

Rickets was caused by the industrial revolution with thick clouds of dust and people working 18 hours a day, and even when they got outdoors, the dark clouds prevented them from get sun. In 1822, physicians in Warsaw showed that children in the suburbs didn’t get rickets, while those in the city did. Children in the farms got sunlight, children in the city did not.

In 1913, Hans Steenboick at the University of Wisconsin showed that lactating goats kept indoors got rickets, while those let outside did not. In 1923, Elmer McColum at Johns Hopkins showed that cod liver oil prevented rickets. Now we had to explain why sunlight and cod liver oil prevent rickets. 1924, Adolf Windaus in Gottingen, Germany isolated the chemical that prevents rickets and it was called vitamin D. 1931, Michael Holick at the Massachusetts General Hospital showed that vitamin D3 was produced by sunlight on the skin. The darker the skin, the more exposure to sunlight is needed to get enough vitamin D.

Humans rarely get enough vitamin D from food, so they have to depend on sunlight to make it in their skin. The reason we are seeing Vitamin D deficiency today is that many people do not get enough sunlight because they are brought up in cold weather climates, or avoid sunlight because of fear of skin cancer, or spend all their time indoors. So now doctors are seeing rickets where mothers lack vitamin D, breastfeed, protect their infants from sunlight, and do not use vitamin supplements.

Creativity Using a Compact

Posted by admin in Internet Photography Resources

It’s hard to believe but compact cameras can actually aid your photographic skills. I know that there will be plenty of prosumer and especially SLR users that will scoff at the idea, but I believe it to be true.

How could this possible be right? After all, compact cameras are small, lack flexibility and have that dreadful “shutter lag” which means that the camera will wait a few moments from the time you press the shutter till it takes the picture.

But, none of these are disadvantageous to your development in photography and can, in fact, aid your creativity.

How?

Consider the shutter lag problem. You see a picture you want and press the shutter button only to find that in the time the camera takes to fire the subject has moved. That special expression has been lost.

The problem is that you have suddenly rushed into taking a shot. The same happens with SLR users.

The issue here is anticipation. If you are in a situation where a decent image might be forthcoming (and being around children is always a good option) then try to look at the scene and anticipate the next image. In this way you can be holding your camera and have the shutter button pressed half way, ready and waiting.

Now you are into “creative mode”. You are now poised and waiting for the right moment, rather than having the right moment thrust upon you. It is creativity like this that makes a good photographer - not the equipment he has.

Exercising Ahead of Touring Gives Better Enjoyment and Prevents Falls

Every year it’s the self same account. In spite of jogging to the workplace, and an occasional trek, every skiing season starts on those torturous first few hikes during which one is left in the tracks of younger and faster ski friends.

Being not match fit when touring it is beastly, and may be downright serious. To ski down one requires some surplus capability. A tired skier is more prone to suffer skiing injuries and weariness can be a contributory element to incidents, such as falls and avalanches.

There must be a better manner to start the winter, and a lately printed 310 page report from Bennie Gulbranson, who previously wrote Alpes Chamonix, appears to tender a solution. Although aimed at mountaineers the info is for the most part relevant to ski touring, with its arduous climbs in addition to additional sports.

Climbing, training for peak performance is well detailed and a good read. It’s a fine well rounded book that gathers some poignant research. You can develop a particular training program or improve your existing programme. Afforded that it is aimed at climbers, so some of the info will be irrelevant for ski touring, it’s by all odds an account to get if you want to do several of the big 24 hour or multi-day classic alpine routes.

The Convertible Nursery - A Room That Grows with Baby

Posted by admin in Uncategorized

You are going to be a parent! With euphoric visions of nursery rhymes, toys, giggles, bunnies and teddy bears, you begin to design the room to turn into a nursery. Soft pink or blue paint, pastel plaid patterns, trim, wallpaper and matching furniture are screaming out in magazine ads and showrooms. You’ve done your browsing, read the brochures, picked the theme, and now you’re ready to doll out the thousands of dollars for the perfect nursery for baby.

Before beginning, take a breather, relax, and sit in the room. Think about your decorating plans and what the nursery will look like. Now, imagine a few years from now, when your baby grows older. Will you need to repaint and redecorate the room? Will the furniture be too small for your child, the clothing too big to fit in the dresser? If you’re willing to spend money for a great nursery, keep in mind that your child will outgrow it much sooner than you think. If you wish to stretch your budget and save time and energy with a minimal redesign of the bedroom, think of the “convertible nursery” approach.

Designing a Nursery

To keep the nursery functional as a child’s room, think of the walls. Instead of baby-themed wallpaper, or pink or blue paint, think of bolder or more neutral colors. Greens or light golds is a great color for any age, and you will still easily achieve the “baby” feel without your child finding it too babyish. Think of patches of bold primary color, usable both for baby and your child. White walls are a great option as well, and gives a clean contrast with the rest of the decorations.

Curtains, trim, shelving, nursery toys, wall posters, rugs and bedding sets can create a more effective nursery atmosphere than the choice of paint itself. Choose decorations that can enhance any wall, such as quilts, framed pictures and window valences. Then, a few years down the line, you simply replace these accents with something more appropriate. Voil, the nursery becomes a child’s room without having to do an expensive renovation!

Furniture

The focal point of the nursery is, of course, the crib. This will probably be your greatest expense in the nursery, especially if you include bedding and accessories such as bumper pads and diaper bags. Instead of replacing it after two or so years, look for one that can convert into a child’s bed. These convertible cribs feature adjustable mattress heights for your growing infant, and a guardrail when it turns into a bed. Some companies even offer optional mattress rails to turn it into a full-size adult bed.

Convertible cribs cost a bit more and, just like the nursery décor, picture what the bed will look like in a few years. There are some points to keep in mind, though. Because they use the same headboard and footboard as the crib, the equal sizes of both might look strange. Don’t buy something too trendy, for it will look out of style in a few years. Finally, read the manufacturer’s description. Sometimes the conversion kits cost extra, adding a few extra hundred dollars to the price.

Look for furniture that can be used well into childhood. For instance, instead of a small, cute nursery dresser, look for a medium-size or even adult dresser with deep drawers to accommodate your child’s or even your teenager’s clothing. Instead of buying a separate change table, the dresser can be used for this purpose with an attachable pad on top. Bookcases can start off with teddy bears, baskets and other nursery items, and be eventually replaced with a growing library.

Storage will be needed. Lots of storage. Blankets, clothing, diaper bags, quilts, shoes and the like will quickly fill the nursery. Along with a dresser, build storage compartments into the closet, and look for a chest or two. When the child grows, the baby clothes in the chest can be replaced with toys.

It’s now time to decorate and fill the nursery. Think of the present and imagine your beautiful baby sleeping in the room. Spend a lot of time here, because before you know it, your baby will have Barbie dolls or toy cars scattered all over his or her room!
