Las Vegas Weddings at the Mandalay Bay

Posted by admin in Relationships

If you are torn between wanting to get married in a tropical paradise and Las Vegas, look no further than the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. The Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas is a tropical themed resort complete with it’s own beach and tropical landscaping. This resort offers two charming wedding chapels which are located right next to an eleven acre tropical lagoon.

If you want to get married at this location, their chapels have some reasonably priced packages. While some Las Vegas hotels have wedding chapels with packages that start at well over a thousand dollars, the Mandalay Bay’s least expensive package, the Crystal Waters package, costs around seven hundred dollars. This includes the chapel, a minister, a wedding bouquet for the bride and a boutonniere for the groom. Also included is a small photography package, bottle of champagne, and a pianist to perform at your ceremony. The pianist is a nice addition since many Las Vegas wedding locations only provide recorded music for the ceremony. This wedding package is only available on Sundays through Thursdays.

The Mandalay Bay chapels also offers several other packages. The most deluxe package available, the Diamond Lights package, goes for about twenty six hundred dollars on Sundays through Thursdays and costs an additional hundred dollars on Fridays and Saturdays. This package includes flowers for not only the bride and groom but also for the maid of honor and best man. Also included is a larger photography package, a DVD recording of the wedding ceremony, a unity candle service, and the pianist will perform before and during the ceremony. The package also comes with a skin care package, bottle of champagne, fruit basket, a honeymoon suite, breakfast in bed, and a champagne dinner.

The Mandalay Bay definitely provides a nice atmosphere for weddings. The tropical landscape and lagoon that they provide would certainly create a great backdrop for wedding pictures, and the packages are fairly reasonably priced. The chapels at Mandalay Bay certainly have a lot to offer couples who want to say “I do” in Las Vegas.

Diet Pills Health Risks

Posted by admin in Medical Portal

People who suffer from weight problems would like to believe that there is a simple, easy solution to their situation. A quick fix of some kind that will help them lose weight rapidly and without any effort. And there is a multi-billion dollar industry that revolves around getting people to believe promises of results that are qualified with fine print stating that the statements they are making haven’t been evaluated by the FDA (US Food & Drug Administration). One of the largest areas of the industry is diet pills. Not only can they cause harmful side effects, but they can become both physically and emotionally addictive.

One of the most dangerous aspects of diet pills is that they are not required by law to be tested by the FDA before they are released to the public. However, the FDA will act to remove a product from the market once it has been shown to be dangerous. This happened in 2003 when the FDA banned products containing ephedrine (ephedra) after they were suspected of being at least partly responsible for the death of a prominent athlete. Secondly, these pills can be purchased over the counter as well as by prescription. It’s up to the buyer to make sure he understands and uses the pills as they were intended. However, some people who are trying to “fix” themselves and their weight problems can be inclined to overdose on diet pills in order to try to speed up the weight loss process even more.

The pills work in different ways. Many are appetite suppressants with active ingredients like phenylpropanolamine or caffeine. Many of them are supposed to increase the rate of your metabolism and at the same time they should help in controlling the appetite. Others claim to block the body’s ability to absorb fat. Others even claim to give the same results of a bariatric gastric banding surgery without the operation. These pills expand in the stomach to create a feeling of satiety. Last, but not least, some diet pills are based on the process of eliminating waste or fluid from the body. Many include some form of diuretic or laxative.

Diet pills can be addictive and can also have harmful side effects even when they are taken according to the doctor’s directions. If you have any health problems, consult your physician before taking any kind of diet pill. Be sure that you follow the directions and be sure that you’re aware of possible side effects. Stop taking the pills immediately if you experience any of them. Some known side effects of diet pills include:

  • anxiety or nervousness,
  • irritability, insomnia and a feeling of restlessness or hyperactivity,
  • high blood pressure,
  • tightness in the chest,
  • heart palpitations,
  • heart attack,
  • stroke or congestive heart failure,
  • digestive tract problems like vomiting, diarrhea, constipation or other stomach pain,
  • fever,
  • dry mouth,
  • headaches,
  • dizziness,
  • blurred vision,
  • profuse sweating,
  • hair loss,
  • menstrual cycle and sex drive disturbances and
  • urinary tract problems.

In the case of overdose, users can experience tremors or convulsions, confusion or hallucinations, breathing problems, renal failure or heart attack.

As you can see, diet pills need to be taken with caution due to all of the physical risks. But there are emotional risks too. Often those trying to lose weight may start to feel emotionally dependent on the pills. They may attribute their initial success to diet pills only, forgetting any diet modifications, exercise or other lifestyle changes that may have been the true reason for the weight loss. People will often ‘pill hop’, trying one new pill after the other, looking for the magic cure that will let them continue to eat whatever they want but still lose weight. However, only a balanced, sensible diet combined with exercise has been proven to keep weight off over any amount of time. And no pill will cause the lifestyle and emotional changes needed to stop overeating and start losing weight.

Fast Home Equity Loan - Benefits to Applying Online

Posted by admin in Loans + More

With home equity at your disposal, you can get a home equity loan fast
by applying online. The streamlined process online gives you results in
just a day. After submitting your application, your loan will be
processed the first business day. Your funds can be dispersed in less than
two weeks.

Speedy Information From Home Equity Loan Lenders

One of the benefits of working with online lenders is that you can
quickly compare their loan rates and fees with others. In a matter of
minutes, you can have several loan estimates from different lenders by
working with an online mortgage broker. With more time, you can investigate
individual lender sites.

When looking at home equity loan costs, consider factors including
terms, possible future refinancing, and upfront costs. Picking the right
terms for your unique financial situation is just as important as finding
low rates.

Fly Through The Application Process

After you have selected an appropriate lender, you can fly through the
application process. If you have already requested a loan quote from
the particular lender, most of the information has already been
submitted. You just have to give permission for your credit report to be
accessed by the financial company to verify your credit score.

Otherwise, you will just need to take a few minutes to enter basic
personal and financial information. Then the lender will validate your
information through their databases. By beginning the process online, you
save days off the loan application process.

Waiting For The Next Step

Once your application has been submitted, you just have to wait for
your forms. Many lenders will call you the following business day to
review the process.

In most cases, you will receive the loan contract through the mail in a
day or two. You just need to sign the forms and have them notarized.
Once your lender receives their copies, your funds will be dispersed
either through a check or wired directly to your checking account.

While the application process is speedy, take the time to investigate
lenders. With thousands of dollars in the balance, time spent
researching home equity loans can save you a lot of cash.

Baseball Betting Odds: Break Even Percentages

Posted by admin in Gambling Fortunes

The probability necessary to win at a given spread is not always something the novice gambler is aware of. This is important because novice gamblers get tempted to bet on the -200 favorite because he/she knows it will likely win the game. What they don’t know is that if the given -200 favorite does not have a 66.6% or better chance of winning, it is a losing proposition over the long haul.

How To Calculate Baseball Betting Odds For Favorites

I define a favorite as a team with a negative spread like -105, -150, etc.

Take the absolute value of the spread and divide by itself plus 100. For example, for an -150 team, take 150/250 = 60%. To pull even, our -150 favorite must win 60% of the time.

How To Calculate Baseball Underdogs Betting Odds

Take 100 and divide by 100 plus the spread. For example, a +150 team, take 100/250 = 40%. To pull even, our +150 dog must win 40% of the time.

List of Break Even Percentages

-200: 66.7%

-180: 64.3%

-160: 61.5%

-140: 58.3%

-120: 54.5%

+100: 50.0%

+120: 45.4%

+140: 41.7%

+160: 38.5%

+180: 35.7%

+200: 33.3%

If you find yourself betting on a favorite, check the break even percentage to ensure that the bet is a profitable one. If you are looking to bet on baseball over the long haul, keeping an eye on the break even percentage is important. Being able to predict a team’s probability of winning is equally as important when you want to win betting baseball.

Online Nursing Degree For Busy Nurses

Posted by admin in Education

Many who work in the healthcare or nursing industry know without question that free time (time within which to relax and call your own) is at a premium. In this regard, they work in extremely demanding jobs: both in terms of the jobs they do and the hours on the job they spend.

Notwithstanding this, many would like to advance their careers. To do this, nurses nearly always need to spend time studying. But, as we have said, nurses’ free time is a premium - so how can a nurse combine study with work, when there is (a) so little time available; and (b) unfixed shift-hours to work? Luckily, with the advent of the Internet, one of the best answers available for nurses is to undertake an online nursing degree program.

Today a number of reputable institutions are offering nationally accredited online nursing degree programs specializing in educating student to address the growing needs of the nursing profession - such as the L.P.N., A.D. and B.S.N. programs. All of these online nursing degree programs afford nurses the chance to further their education (and hopefully their careers) without having to miss any work or disturbing their personal life - beyond, of course, the time needed to study!

So, if you are a registered nurse, or registered care taker, and are looking to further your career options, or merely to learn and understand more about the profession that you work in, why not consider some of the benefits of attending an online nursing degree program to broaden your professional responsibilities and career options, including being able:

- to continue with your nursing or care-taking career;

- set your study schedule to fit with your work schedule;

- communicate with your fellow students via email and chat-rooms;

- study in the safe environment of your home - no need to attend late night lectures

- learn about the management-side of day-to-day nursing, as well as the care-giving side of nursing

- stay abreast of the latest developments in the nursing profession

As you can see, Online nursing degree programs are designed to provide nurses with a unique blend of advanced nursing and business management skills that are needed in order to better manage today’s health care duties.

Health Insurance for Diabetics

Posted by admin in Medical Portal

Recently, I’ve had a lot of requests for an alternative to health insurance for diabetics. The case of one gentleman, in particular, has lingered on my mind.

The man who I will refer to as “Bob” has what is called Type II, or Late Onset Diabetes. My own dad has this condition as well, so I am aware of the tremendous health struggles and monetary cost that can come as a result.

One fortunate thing for Daddy is that he was well covered with health insurance long before he became ill. Bob was not so lucky. He had no type of coverage at all when he received the surprise diagnosis of diabetes.

Do you know that once a doctor has made a chart note, or included a lab result in your chart, suggesting that your blood sugar is high (or that you are “pre-diabetic”) your odds of being able to obtain a reasonably priced health insurance plan plummet?

That was the case with Bob, who had been “getting by” paying for his glucose meter, testing strips, and diabetic supplies out of his own pocket. This had been a burden on Bob’s bank account, which was in its own state of recovery following a divorce, but he was getting back on his feet in mid January.

When I mentioned an alternative to health insurance for diabetics, Bob was relieved and thrilled, and asked me to give him a call on pay day so that he could get started. The great news about these alternatives is that they cover all ongoing medical problems, even if the doctor has written a definite diagnosis in the chart.

Sadly, when I reached Bob on his cell phone, Bob was not in a position to talk long. He had been at Bible Study the previous evening when he’d gone into insulin shock. The men in his group had responded quickly and Bob had been taken to the hospital, where he expected to remain for 2 to 3 more days to recover.

I can only imagine what the EMT, hospital, and doctor charges will add up to for such an emergency. It breaks my heart to know that because he narrowly missed getting signed up for an alternative to health insurance for diabetics, Bob will be paying the entire amount out of his own pocket.

It especially concerns me to know that there are so many diabetics (and undiagnosed folks who have the condition and may suddenly experience diabetic symptoms) who have no coverage.

Not only does diabetes require testing supplies, possible prescription medication and/or insulin; it comes with the threat of emergency hospital admission for something like insulin shock. Worse yet … diabetes brings with it a whole host of possible serious health consequences.

My own dad has suffered numerous complications of his diabetes, even though he and my mother took the condition seriously from the beginning and altered his lifestyle accordingly. I shudder to think what would have become of my parents when my dad began having strokes, if they had not been covered with health insurance prior to his diabetes diagnosis.

You see, even if a person is able to get insurance coverage for diabetics after they are diagnosed with the condition, a traditional insurance company will generally have a lengthy waiting period before they will pay anything for diabetes treatment OR for other conditions which they can cite as possibly related to or caused by the diabetes.

If in reading the diabetes information I’ve provided on my website, you think that you or someone you love is at risk for having or getting diabetes, I urge you to make certain you or they have or obtain health insurance today.

I understand that many of us would have a difficult time paying for traditional health insurance - especially on short notice - however that truly would be your best course of action.

If traditional insurance coverage is out of reach, the next best option is to sign up for an inexpensive health discount program. These plans provide appreciable discounts on care associated with diabetes.

Additionally, at least one of the discount programs provides a hospital advocate to each member so that any costs over $2,500 are negotiated down to wholesale, and payment arrangements are worked out.

If you or someone you love has already been diagnosed with diabetes, it is all the more important to obtain health insurance immediately. While it may not pay toward anything related to the diabetes until a waiting period has passed, at least that waiting period could be going by now, making coverage available should any complications occur in the future.

The American Diabetes Association website (http://www.diabetes.org/home.jsp) has all sorts of great resources for diabetics. There you will find a state-by-state listing of insurance available to those who qualify as being in the individual state “risk pools”.

The insurance available through your state, if you qualify, can be a lifesaver in the case of extremely costly diabetes related situations. The down side is that the deductible of these insurance plans can run in the thousands of dollars. One woman recently told me that her sister’s plan in Illinois has a $5,000 deductible.

If possible, then, it would also be advisable to have a health discount program in addition to these state plans. The program would provide discounts on usual care and supplies for diabetes during the time before the deductible amount is met.

Don’t underestimate the seriousness of diabetes, and don’t put off the investigation of your options for health insurance for diabetics. If you find that insurance will not work for you, check into the new health discount plans which accept pre-existing conditions.

False Prophets

Direct Answers - Column for the week of May 12, 2003

Of all the relationship advice columns, I like and respect yours most because you never encourage using manipulation or “tricks” in relationships.

I recently turned 30 and am considered an attractive woman. My life has never been easy, but I put it all behind me and tried to make the best out of my assets. I moved to the States, put myself through college, graduated with honors, and work hard to support myself.

The only problem is I have no love in my life. The men I date act like I am the best thing to happen to them, in the beginning that is. Inevitably it turns out they do not want a serious relationship, leaving me with a broken heart and crushed hopes. If I am really that wonderful, why is this happening to me?

I have dated men of various ages, professions, and physical appearance. The only thing they have in common is a dread of settling down with one person forever.

I live in New York, perhaps the most “commitment phobic” city in the world. Whenever I travel to other states, people say, “You’re such a beautiful girl. Not married yet?” It’s flattering, but I cringe to hear that question. It makes me feel like the biggest loser.

I’ve tried almost everything. Recently I read in one of the relationship books the best way to attract the right partner is make a list of all the qualities we would like them to possess and meditate upon it. Inevitably the right mate will be drawn to us. Call me skeptical, but this sounds like ordering custom furniture, not meeting a mate.

Can such lists really work? Please help me. I am too young to live without love the rest of my life.

Eldora

Eldora, oh, if it was only that simple. Make a list of what you want–a man, money, or a trim waist–and meditate. If that worked, we’d all be married, we’d all be rich, and we’d all be thin. If that book worked, it would be the hottest selling book ever.

Authors of relationship books say you can plan and plot this out because that is what people want to hear. But it is not within their power to make happen. No one has a crystal ball to tell you when the great moments of your life will occur. Love comes when it comes, not when you decide it should come.

Love is a word which is often misused. It can be used to gain undeserved intimacy. There is something to be said for waiting, because those who are not serious are not likely to be patient. As you have already painfully discovered, you cannot turn a man who is not serious into one who is no matter how much he says he likes or loves you.

It doesn’t take long to realize a shoe doesn’t fit, and almost all men give indicators they are, or are not, of a mindset for a wife. The sooner you learn a man is not of your mindset, the less likely you are to be hurt. If a man says he isn’t looking for marriage, shake his hand, say goodnight, and tell him he is not what you are looking for.

The one thing we can tell you is to live the kind of life which is in you, that you deserve, that you have a passion for. Because that is the only thing which is under your control.

Put yourself in the way of love and marriage. That means not being involved with anyone who does not want marriage, acknowledging in your heart you want to be married, and not being afraid to say it. The man who truly loves you will want to make you his own.

The best thing you can do is be out there living a good life.

Medical Billing Services Save Heatlhcare Practices Money and Time

Posted by admin in Web Management

There are many reasons healthcare practices might outsource their billing to a professional medical billing service; confusing insurance requirements, staffing problems and just keeping up with industry changes are a few examples. In the end though, the reasons most medical billing companies hear about come down to the two driving principles of any business - Time and Money. This article discusses how medical billing services are able to create significant savings in time and money for healthcare providers.

Medical Billing Services Save Training and Research Time
- Some readers might take the short view and think medical billing companies just enter data into a computer and send it off to a clearinghouse. In reality medical billing is a detailed process requiring specialized skills and in-depth knowledge of medical practice management, insurance industry practices, and the regulatory framework around state and federal laws. Professional medical billing companies invest countless hours in training and research to keep abreast of current codes, submission requirements, industry trends and the needs of their clients.

Significant expenditures are also made to ensure medical billing companies are up to date on the latest software. In a constantly changing industry, software vendors are always finding new and better ways of supporting practice needs. It’s not practicable for small or medium sized practices to dedicate the time necessary to stay on top of the latest innovations.

These investments of time by professional medical billing services are often not considered by providers, but they eliminate endless hours otherwise spent in seminars, meetings with vendors, or on the phone with clearinghouses and carriers. This time savings creates a valuable commodity for a practice seeking the edge necessary to keep up with a rigorous patient schedule.

Medical Billing Services Save Operational Time
-Medical billing services are able to save operational time by leveraging the economy of scale and the efficiency of task specialization.

Professional medical billing companies, by their very nature, create an economy of scale in maintaining a team of medical billing professionals to provide services across several practices. This structure creates a well trained pool of resources to manage each practice’s needs rather than just one individual overseeing all billing functions. The team approach also removes interruptions to revenue flow that result from vacations, unexpected sick time and staff turnover.

Task specialization among teams further heightens the efficiency of medical billing companies. Through task specialization, a team of billers can accentuates individual skills and reduces distractions of other activities.

Consider a provider who sees an average of 30 patients per day, or a total of 150 encounters per week. The time required to generate and submit 150 patient claims and follow up with insurance carriers with a high lever of accuracy can take up most of the time of an in-house biller. But this is just the beginning. That same individual will also need to follow up on denied or partially paid claims, researching why and resubmitting for further review. Patient invoices require additional time- printing, stuffing and mailing- as well as posting payments, running reports and providing detailed analysis on the current state of the practice; all this just to meet the standard offering of professional medical billing companies.

Through task specialization, medical billing companies might offer each of its clients several billers submitting claims and reviewing insurance payments with the highest level of accuracy. At the same time, the service might have other individuals or groups dedicated to managing patient invoices and questions across several practices with increased efficiency. This approach maximizes the time available for each activity by specialists with a greater knowledge of their roles, and, again, guarantees minimal (if any) interruption during employee leave and staff changes.

Medical Billing Services Save Money
-Hiring and training new staff, employee benefits, vacation/sick leave, and staff turnover are just a few factors increasing the costs of managing an efficient in-house billing program. Added to the operational overhead of day to day billing, software/hardware maintenance, clearinghouse fees, postage, and so on, the list of expenditures for practices is endless.

Good medical billing companies will design their services around covering all of these costs and immediately do away with the problems they create. To clearly demonstrate how medical billing services can save practices money, let’s compare the core costs associated with in-house medical billing against working with a professional medical billing service.

Cost of In-House Billing:
Our comparison begins with a typical practice with one or two providers. Let’s assume this practice has a dedicated, in-house biller receiving an annual salary of $30,000, or about $14.50 per hour. The chart below outlines the additional costs of having a full time employee in the office to handle all aspects of medical billing.

  • Base Pay ————————–$30,000
  • Medicare and Social Security ———$2295
  • 401K ——————————–$1080
  • Disability —————————–$720
  • Healthcare ————————–$5220
  • Time off —————————–$3270
  • Total labor for 1 in-house biller ——$42,585

Next, we’ll need to consider materials and fees. An average practice will probably upgrade computers and software every 3 years at a cost of about $6,000. Spread out over those three years, we’ll assume an average annual software/hardware expenditure of $2000. Since our practice will send out its own patient statements, we’ll need about $150 per month for postage, paper and envelopes, an annual cost of $1800. Clearinghouse fees for electronic claims will come to about $60 a month, or around $720 annually. For the sake of simplicity, we’ll forget for the moment that our biller will need a climate controlled workspace, lights, general office supplies and a desk.

Here’s what our list of software/hardware, materials and fees looks like:

  • Software/Hardware —————–$2000
  • Materials —————————$1800
  • Clearinghouse Fees ——————$720
  • Total ——————————$4520

Adding the two totals above (labor + materials & fees), the annual cost of medical billing services performed in-house by the practice comes to $47,105 per year. Of course this number might not mean much until we put it in perspective against teaming with a professional medical billing service. As we move forward, keep in mind this conservative estimate does not factor in those other costs mentioned above that are often hidden - ongoing training, unexpected leave and sudden staff changes.

Cost of Professional Medical Billing Services:
To evaluate the cost of working with medical billing services, we’ll assume our practice has contracted with a medical billing company for full service billing. This includes all of those activities that would otherwise have been performed by the in-house staff above; claim generation/submission, insurance follow up, patient invoicing and support, detailed reporting, expert practice analysis, etc. We’ll also assume the practice has negotiated a rate of 8% of collections with its professional medical billing service.

Note: Calculating costs for medical billing services will vary slightly depending on the fee structure but will usually be based on either a percentage of collections or a fixed fee per claim. For more information on fee structures, see Percentage vs. Flat Fee Pricing by Medical Billing Services.

Assuming our provider visits 30 patients per day, 50 weeks out of the year, we’ll have 7500 patient encounters per year. If each encounter results in an average reimbursement of $60, our receivables come to a little over $450,000 per year. At a rate of 8%, the annual cost for the professional service to manage all aspects of medical billing services for the practice would be $31,500. In comparison with in-house services that’s a savings of $15,600 per year!

Summary
In evaluating the benefits of outsourcing to a professional medical billing company practices should consider the overall savings in time and money, beyond just minimizing the hassles. Medical billing companies provide knowledge, training, continuity of operations and a network of support leveraging task specialization and the economy of scale. Medical billing companies are able to eliminate dependency on one or two costly staff members to maintain revenue flow for the entire practice.
